The Next Avant Gardener’s Gathering will be on Sunday Feb 2 at 6pm in the A-3 building- Come potluck together and talk about our PICA community.

PICA Weekly: 24th Edition

001We would love to have you join us for a discussion about undergraduate educational opportunities at CASFS and PICA next year. The Executive Director of CASFS, Daniel Press will be join us along with Professor Stacy Philpott. We will meet on Friday, May 31 at 1pm in the A-quad of the Village. Snacks will be provided. This is an opportunity for PICA students to share their input and ask question and an important meeting regarding what may happen at PICA next year.

Lidia created a volunteer survey for the 2013-2014 school year please fill it out along with the PICA Spring evaluations forms. Put them in the envelope in your kitchen, they will be collected on Monday June 3rd. Thank you!

Next Avant Gardeners meeting will be held next Sunday, June 2nd from  6 to 7pm in A3. We will be having a mini meeting and recapping the announcements about PICA’s future. Bring desserts to share!

Please attend/help with the welcome dinner for new PICAns on Tuesday June 4th at 7pm. Lidia needs help with cooking and facilitating the event so we can have an awesome night getting to know new community folk! Please let Lidia know ASAP if you can help out!

PICA leadership team meetings are open to all students who live at PICA in the Village and any interested community members. In Spring Quarter 2013, the leadership team meetings will take place  in A-3 Friday 5:00-6:30pm.

PICA is hiring for 4 paid gardening positions this summer. The positions are part-time, starting after finals and ending early September. The pay rate is $9 per hour. Please email your resume and cover letter to Bee Vadakan at vvadakan@ucsc.edu and state which position you are applying for. Be sure to include your phone number so we can reach you promptly. Applications are due by Sunday,June 2nd at Midnight.

Our compost whisperer, Matt S. has garden office hours every Wednesday from 10:00 am to noon.

Our garden coordinator Jarid Kroes, also has garden office hours. They are Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:30 and Thursday from 5:00-6:30.

970145_10151939660889569_2101497844_nThree Sisters Planting is on Saturday May 18, from 10- 2pm. We will learn about the three sisters inter-crop planting, plant corns bean and squash and have a meal based on the three sisters. We will also have bike powered music!

The Intern Program at Pesticide Action Network North America is currently recruiting for one intern to work on our bees campaign. Let Mira know if you know of anyone interested in this position or in other internships with PAN.
